We invite applications for 5 doctoral positions:


Graduates will work on cooperative projects from two LCI institutes in joint supervision. It is mandatory for each graduate to conduct at least 3 months of the research at the cooperating institute.

The Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine is Germany’s largest institution for research, medical services and training in the field of tropical diseases and emerging infections (www.bnitm.de). The BNITM offers two doctoral positions:

The Research Center Borstel has its focus on biomedical research in pneumology, concentrating on infectious diseases of the lung – mainly tuberculosis (www.fz-borstel.de). The FZB offers two doctoral positions:

The Heinrich Pette Institute focuses on human pathogenic viruses with the aim of understanding viral diseases and developing novel therapeutic approaches (www.hpi-hamburg.de). The HPI offers two doctoral positions:
Project 1 – “Role of host cell factors and nuclear lipid droplets in nuclear export of adenovirus RNA“; Main supervisor: Prof. Dr. Thomas Dobner (Diese E-Mail-Adresse ist vor Spambots geschützt! Zur Anzeige muss JavaScript eingeschaltet sein!)
Project 2 – “Mechanisms underlying sex differences in innate immunity to viral infections“; Main supervisor: Prof. Dr. Marcus Altfeld (Diese E-Mail-Adresse ist vor Spambots geschützt! Zur Anzeige muss JavaScript eingeschaltet sein!)

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with very good command of the English language. Candidates should hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) in Natural or Life Sciences.

Starting date will be July 1st, 2015 or later. Salary will be according to German TVöD (salary agreement for public service employees). Applications from handicapped persons will be favored when all other qualifications are equal. The LCI institutes are equal opportunity employers.
